Scour Believer :)

The scour finally came! I’m going to do a huge bit of wool washing this weekend (and take lots of picture of all of that + dyework), but I took the plunge today and did a small test run on about 200g of Castlemilk Moorit and wow. With my previous method, I would have had to soak/drain/rinse 5+ times, but this was all set and ready after one (I did a second just as a formality, but it was all clean already). For those curious, I’ve started using Kookaburra Wool Scour (I’m not affiliated or endorsed by them in any way; I’m just super happy with the results 🙂 )

Since it’s super-concentrated, the instructions just say ‘1 to 2 ounces per pound of fleece’…I’m not always working with a pound, though, so I worked up a nice little spreadsheet to help me with my measurements. Maybe it’ll help some of you, too 🙂

(All measurements for scour are rounded to the second decimal point…except teaspoons, which is rounded to the nearest measurable increment.)

Ounces of Wool Grams of Wool Fluid Ounces (Scour) mL (Scour) Teaspoons (Scour)
16 460 2.00 60.00 12.00
9 250 1.13 34.00 6.75
8 230 1.00 30.00 6.00
7 200 0.88 26.00 5.25
6 175 0.75 22.00 4.50
5.5 150 0.69 20.00 4.25
4 114 0.50 7.50 3.00
2 57 0.25 3.75 1.50
2 50 0.25 3.75 1.50
1 29 0.13 1.88 0.75

There. Now I won’t lose it all if my notebook gets wet :3
